animal stuff

I'm never sure exactly what I think about animal rights. After this weekend at Sheep and Wool, and then, reading this story (and hearing about it of course) about Eight Belles tragic demise, I'm often left wondering where the line is drawn with animals.
It's interesting to me where the line in the sand is for each person and its something that Sheep and Wool always makes me ponder when I'm there with friends who get the Pit Lamb sandwich just feet from the pen that holds the little lambs.
This festival truly is a celebration of the entire animal and what it does for us, not only by clothing but, but by feeding people. An interesting thought, really, though I can't touch the stuff myself when I'm there and have never really eaten Lamb since I figured out the whole connection when I was four of Lamb Chops = "Lamb Chop's Play-Along".

This didn't stop me, last night however from having a cheeseburger for dinner and I wonder why that is. Out of sight,(no cow in my backyard?) out of mind?
I continue to toy with going back to a vegetarian way of life and know that one day I will when I'm ready for a variety of reasons but, my heart just can't help but ache for the gorgeous horse (I don't even like horses, for the record, they creep me out and I think they all want to quietly squish me under their very large hooves) that was euthanized moments after a second place win at the Kentucky Derby.
I'm not sure where I'm going with this, mostly its just a stream of thought that's zipping around in my late-on-a-Monday afternoon brain. Food for thought, really. (No pun intended!)

  1. There was a question on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me this weekend about Shari Lewis the puppeteer who did Lamb Chop. Turns out that she would order lamb chops at a restaurant any time she saw them on the menu, mostly for the reaction of the waitstaff.

  3. This is the song that doesn't end,
Yes it goes on and on my friend.
Some people started singing it, not knowing what it was,
And they'll continue singing it forever just because —> this is the song that doesn't end...

I seriously loved that show. I had a few Lamb Chop dolls too.
